The post office just raised my six month box rent from $75 to $102. It's a box I've had for 41 years. I've given them a big portion of their budget over the decades.

I had guy all upset because a certain brand of tents sent his via USPS and still waiting for it two weeks later (from California to Australia...) According to him they should use Fed Ex because he has always had stellar service from them. So I replied with a few links to Fed UP with Fed Ex discussions.

I suspect when some mail distribution centers are overwhelmed, the throw a bunch of mail in a bin and ship it off to BFE, hoping they'll have time to sort it when it eventually returns.

USPS revenue for FY21 is estimated to be $71 billion USD. Your contribution of $102 is 0.0000000014% of that amount. I suspect that the previous 40 years are comparable. I wouldn't call that a big portion. The USPS was in the red approximately $9 billion USD last year.

I see a lot of reports of problems with parcels from all over the place. But the one va3pinner is reporting is particularly bad, could be a record.

Not sure about competitors because I never sold them myself (well apart from my own and I have had many tents from several brands...) BTW, another local guy had his tent (different brand but from the US) sitting at Custom for 8 weeks. That is after it had gone up to Tokyo before getting to Sydney.

Moatly, they're in the Red because Congress made them fund their pension plans something like 20 years into the future, an accounting method used by no other business. Just another way the Obstructionists have been trying to strangle government that works.

FWIW, wouldn’t it be more appropriate to say that the USPS is a service that costs money, as opposed to saying that they lose money?

When you think about what the USPS does, I’m astounded. No one else considers delivering an envelope for 55 cents, or whatever it costs these days. On any time frame.

I just wish they would have put stickers for each state that package went through and I would have hung it on my wall.
Just did the math - 6,107 miles minimum. Diesel fuel at about $4.00/gallon..........not bad for a package that had about $1.00 postage! Now THAT'S what I call a DEAL!!!

When you think about what the USPS does, I’m astounded. No one else considers delivering an envelope for 55 cents, or whatever it costs these days. On any time frame. Right. And to elaborate on my point a little, I'll make up some numbers. Let's say that the true cost of delivering those envelopes averages out to $1. I'm fine with paying $1, but I'm also fine with paying $.45 of each of those dollars with taxes, which are (in theory) progressive, so that people are shouldering the burden according to their ability to do so. We have a local politician who always makes a big deal about how the local pools lose money. This infuriates me. Who says they're supposed to make money? They're a service, a "perk" if you will, that a municipality supplies to it's residents. Again, they don't LOSE money, they COST money.
