Is the hike from Ipsut Creek to Carbon River trailhead single-track trail? Or is it a dirt road? I think you used to be able to drive all the way to Ipsut.
I'm trying to decide whether to make my extraction point Carbon TH or Mowich. Is the hike from Ipsut to Mowich nicer than from Ipsut to Carbon River Trailhead? The distances seem comparable.
Which is easier to drive to? I know that the road to Mowich is dirt, but not sure about the road to Carbon TH.
Thanks in advance.

You used to be able to drive it, in fact they fixed for the anniversary but it was washed out almost immediately. I rode my bike in the year before thinking the Northern Loop, Wonderland trail would be less busy with the road closed. It has been almost that long since Ihave been in that part of the park.
Hiking to Mowich would be harder, uphill. I also day hiked from Mowich down thru Spray Park and back up the wonderland trail. Spray Park is very nice, I forget the other route, some nice dayhikes at Mowich, Tolmie Peak , off trail scrambles.
Carbon is a bit easier to drive to, not sure about parking at either given the population increase etc.

I know this is 3 years late, but someone might want to know:
I actually have driven when it was still driveable. It was never a fun drive, due to how bad the road was. When it blew out in 2006, it was closed to cars. I have hiked it countless times. It starts out as a nearly 2-car-wide road. It is always wide and easy to walk, in where it became trail in the sections that blew out in 2006. They made it this way as the park still drives quads on it, to get access into the deeper core of the park. Bikes are allowed on the 5 miles.
The road to Mowich isn't bad, it's basically 2 cars wide, but unpaved. Can get bad by end of season though. It's also very busy on weekends with minimal parking at the end. Carbon has more parking now (they built more), but is super popular even in off season.
