This morning I finaly discovered the White Plumed honeyeater sound. I was by myself and no other birds were close by when I heard them calling out , so now I know how they sound.

Sometime birds pose for us but at other times they get sick of seeing long lenses pointed at them. This Fairy-Wren is banging her head on the tree wishing I would go away. (Not him again!!!)

Others seem to bask in the attention. There’s a Barred Owl a bit out of its environment that’s both adopted NYC Central Park as it’s home and has relentlessly perched in full view of its adoring public for months. Only moving when the harassing songbirds gets overwhelming, or it’s time for a rat snack.
Not mine:

Superb Fairy-wren. (non breeding male) We don't have any wrens in Australia but we do have a few birds with "wren" within their name. Another local one is the Striated Fieldwren.
This is a breeding Superb Fairy-wren male from yesterday. It was on the ground feeding with his three females (about the average number here) when he hopped on that rock for a better look.

Superb Fairy-wren. (non breeding male) Is the "Fairy" moniker related to non-breeding?

Superb Fairy-wren. (non breeding male) Is the "Fairy" moniker related to non-breeding? There are 11 species of birds with the common name Fairywren (or Fairy-wren) Maybe the name is derived from their appearance as in : small, beutifull and sort of magical . (like the fairies at the bottom of the garden) (when that photo was first published, 1917, many believed those fairies were real) The colour you see in the breeding males can change a lot depending on the angle of the light. This photo has a better rendition

Is the "Fairy" moniker related to non-breeding? You are so politically incorrect....

Is the "Fairy" moniker related to non-breeding? You are so politically incorrect.... It was a fair-enough question.

My question was 25% legit (on the off chance "Fairy" was gender related) and 75% intended to make trinity ROTFL.

Apparently when you're a young Red-breasted Merganser you have to do everything in unison....

Not a great photo, but a very unusual bird for this part of the country. This Worm-eating Warbler has been hanging around our house since yesterday evening. This bird is usually found in the southeastern United States. It may be the first record for our county.

We still have a lot of Avocets at the moment but way down from the 300 or so we had a few weeks ago. This is one fly by from yesterday
the original is a lot sharper but too big to load. BTW, I post my photos on Face Book, I don't sell anything there... (Franco Darioli, there is only one with that name)
