This came up on my Face Book memories from a year ago. Not uncommon for those cockatoos to hang upside down just for fun but this one would let go, drop as dead weight and then just before hitting the ground, fly up to the tree again.

A crest of plumage will suffice.

On our usual walk yesterday we spotted two types of cuckoos, four raptors as well as finches and honeyeaters , apart from the usual sea birds and other resident types. I liked this shot , Braun Falcon landing :

Posted this morning in the local Bird Forum (NOT my photo....) A Tawny Frogmouth I still have not been able to see one in the wild. You can guess why.

I’ve seen one in the National Aviary in Pittsburgh. There couldn’t be an uglier bird, but the camouflage is amazing!

Another one from this morning. A female Kestrel with a grasshopper. Two seconds later a raven attacked her so she had to fly away.

That’s always amusing to see. Over the weekend I saw a red winged blackbird whack a great egret on the head multiple times. The poor bitd was just standing there in the water doing it’s thing. I can sort of see songbirds animosity to raptors and owls, but a wader that eats fish? That’s just being nasty tempered.
Also the honk that came out of the egret took its majesty down a few points. Lol

Egrets do indeed make a funny noise. Apart from the raven a notorious PIA bird here is this the Willy Wagtail. They are very territorial, they escort us out of their zone and regularly harass the raptors including the very muchy bigger Little Eagle.

A rousing photo :
Rousing is the term used to describe a bird puffing up like that. They do it to trap air inside their down (sounds familiar ?) to keep themselves warm.
