Just noticed that the outside rivet on both toepieces of my MSR Lightning Ascent snowshoes has broken. I had considered these to be indestructible, but apparently that's not the case. I've ordered a field service kit for the repair.

I had considered these to be indestructible, but apparently that's not the case. My worry on modern snowshoes was always the neoprene decking getting a tear. The weak spot on my 2010 Atlas snowshoes is the decking wrapped around the frame. And sure enough, I give it 1-2 seasons more. A rivet, not so much. A rivet body is by design, formable with hand tools. I blew a couple in recent years from rock strikes on really expensive leather mountain boots. The surrounding leather didn't have a mark.

Easy to repair with an inexpensive pop rivet kit and some empty plastic jugs, such as windshield washer fluid or laundry detergent. It's a pain, but no worse than varnishing and patching the rawhide back in the good old days.

I never lost a rivet on my Atlas shoes, but the bindings completely disintegrated. Finding replacements turned out to be impossible.

Thanks. I'll give them to a friend if he wants them and he can do the repair. They're replaced with some Tubbs w/quick release, easy step in bindings, we really like. I did not come across this, but checked another company a few miles from me called Dion Snowshoes, but the bindings were very expensive as they do race shoes.

My MSR strech straps no longer strech after about 20 years, I think one broke , I havent decided if I will replace them as I dont use them much as I prefer skiing. I bought them for a scramble class, though we often just booted it.
