Last week I backpacked the 43 mile Black Forest Trail in PA. PA often is underrated as a backpacking destination but the expansive state forest trail system has a ton of backpacking options. Perhaps the most popular for scenery and difficulty is the Black Forest Trail in the North Central part of the state in the Tiadaghton SF. I originally planned to hike this in June but a Lyme Disease Tick found me on the nearby Susquehannock Trail System. Some illness and a couple DR appointments postponed the trip followed by the heat of summer. This time I planned it to hit foliage season which I would argue is among the best in PA if you hit it at the right time. I didn't quite hit peak but still got some great color. The water along the trail was in sad shape from a very dry summer, which is a shame because there are nice streams and a few waterfalls running dry. I have a thorough photo heavy TR at my website at the link below. linkHere are a few pics

tomcat, thanks for sharing such lovely photos. I'm especially fond of the first two, and still figuring out how you took that stunning last photo. Were you laying down on the ground? It's truly unique.

tomcat, thanks for sharing such lovely photos. I'm especially fond of the first two, and still figuring out how you took that stunning last photo. Were you laying down on the ground? It's truly unique. I took the last photo just looking up to the tree canopy. This usually works well with colorful foliage, snowy trees, or white trees such as aspen or birch when contrast with a blue sky.
