They have received a lot of good press as an inexpensive, lighter weight boot with good quality.
(I need a new pair of boots and am looking to try something lighter weight than the Vasque Summit which has been my boot of choice for a while.)
Obviously fit is everything and is personal, but I'd love to hear opinions about the other aspects of the boots--comfort, durability, support, tread, etc.
My thinking is that the days of boots that last season after season are probably gone, so I'm willing to try some lower-priced models (since I expect that I'll be replacing whatever I buy, regardless of the price, after 400-500 miles, in all likelihood).

I just bought my first pair of Targhee II Mids about a month ago after trying them on at REI. I have a fairly wide foot, and finding a comfortable boot is exacerbated by a knob of arthritis on top of the knuckle of my left big toe. The Targhees were immediately comfortable and fit true for my size 12. So far I've only done a couple local dayhikes (5 miles max) and my only complaint is I wish they had more of a heel drop (but it's pretty standard for boots of this type). Too soon to tell about durability and waterproof holding up.

FWIW, my cousin pours concrete for a living. He swears by those boots for his job. Most comfortable & durable for the price he can find.

The Targhee is the Goretex version of the Voyageur, which I do have - good shoes, but they wear out faster than some others. (I don't do waterproof boots when there is no snow.)

When I switched from boots to shoes these (shoe version) is what I switched to and I love them. The fit and comfort are great. The first trip I did with them was 7 days on Isle Royale and they were great. However, just don't expect the gortex to hold out. Hiking all day in the rain just proved too much for them. By mid afternoon every step I took water would squeeze out of the shoe.

I have the Targhee Mids II. They're ok. I think the fit is a little loose all around the foot. If I had bought them a half size smaller than my usual boots than I might have liked them more.

I have the targhee, the summit in camo and the koven. I have a wide size 13 foot and weight around the 240 lb mark. They are the only shoe/boot I buy now and I've had little problems with them. They are comfortable and support well.
The caveats I have for keens are the laces that always seem to be to long and never stay tied with a simple bow knot. Other than that, the tend to get a little warm which is why I tend to prefer the koven on warm weather days.
I've worn various other keens and the rubber always seems to hold up well. Usually the glue holding the sole on is the first to go but usually after a few years of hard use.
