Believe it or not I did graduate from college but for the life me I can't figure out how to work this style of line tensioner. Looks basic to me but apparently my ability to get this concept down is lacking. I've tried to restring it by flipping it horizontally and vertically even which side I put the knot. It really can't be this hard! So I'm asking for help or maybe a better replacement. This isn't a picture of my setup. I borrowed this from a well known shopping site. I even had my hiking partners look at this on my last hike and they couldn't figure it out either. I was hoping someone had a youtube video but if there is one I'm putting in the wrong key words for searches.

Thanks almostthere, I'm gonna take a picture of that and sit down and see if that makes a difference to my befuddled brain.

Wow. Might have to get some of those just for in-camp entertainment. this style of line tensioner Looks like the ones on my Lanshan tent I think. I've pulled the wrong way on those many times. Look at the picture closely and the solution will become clear.

Wow. Might have to get some of those just for in-camp entertainment. They work pretty good - my no-knot hammock setup has benefited from the addition. I replaced a big strap with a length of dyneema cord and one of the loop aliens for my gravity filter setup for a lighter, more flexible hanging method.

Thanks toejam, indeed it is for my LanShan also. I'm going to print this out and take it with me on my 4 day hike coming up. I'll finish early one of those days and figure it out then with the help of the diagram that you and almostthere pointed out, for some evening fun. Don't want to turn this discussion into one about the LanShan but it's one of the best sub $130.00 purchases I've made in recent years. It withstood a bad windstorm at 12,000 in July and has kept me perfectly dry.

Unfortunately I didn't have time to sit down and try to figure this out on my last hike. It was too wet. However, after doing some reading and watching I'm starting to wonder if line that is being used for my tensioners is too small. I think I'm going to purchase a couple of different kinds and do some practicing inside... since winter pretty much has next 3 month tied up.

I just use a trucker's hitch. Not so good for silnylon though.

I'm starting to wonder if line that is being used for my tensioners is too small. I don't know if that's the problem in your case, but that style of tensioner definitely won't work if the line is too small.

I don't know if that's the problem in your case You're correct, it's probably not my problem but it had never occurred to me to consider the line size before watching a video that mentioned it.
