I took these two shots from my campsite at the west end of McClure Meadow, during a 7-day backpacking trip. I did the North Lake to South Lake loop, which is about 55 miles. Started at North Lake trailhead, over Piute Pass (11,423 ft. elev.), down to the John Muir Trail, along the San Joaquin river before heading up to Evolution Valley. I camped at McClure, then headed up over Muir Pass (11,955 ft. elev), down through LeConte Canyon, up to Dusy Basin, then over Bishop Pass (11,972 ft. elev), and down to South Lake, west of Bishop. I took seven days, which is a nice, leisurely pace for the approximately 55-mile loop. I used a Canon 6D, and an EF 24-105mm f/4.0L lens.

Beautiful, especially the reflections in the second photo. They're so clear. I can feel the warmth of the sun and the chill of the lake just from gazing at the photos.
Did your dog accompany you?
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks. The reflection shots have to be taken with the camera lens as close to the surface of the water as possible for the best fidelity of the horizon, so for this one, I was lying on the bank of Evolution Creek, holding the camera until the body and lens was *just* touching the surface of the water. Since you can't use the viewfinder, I had to take several frames, and pick the one that worked the best... Sadly, my dog, Mochi, is too old to come with me hiking any more. In her day, she was a wonderful trail dog, and has come on several backpacking trips, but she's just too frail these days.

biffnix , I wasn't aware of that technique for reflection shots; thanks for sharing. Sorry about Mochi; sounds like you and she had a good hiking relationship when she was younger. There must be some good feelings and good memories from those experiences.
