I got the permit for starting the JMT at Cottonwood. I'm planning on 22 days, with 3 or 4 food drops, if I can have a can hauled in at Onion Valley. My son is going with me to be my sherpa and bodyguard. He is a soph in college, so this might be the last time he is available for a month of hiking. Its also a time when I can be fit enough to do it, plus have the time. I'll be 66, and taking much more time off in 2016. I'll probably totally retire in 2017 and likely get a hip replacement sometime in the next few years. I've hiked from Cottonwood to Symmes Creek, through the Wallace, Wright, Wales, and Tyndall Creek and Big Horn Plateau areas. I did the JMT southbound in 1971, in 29 days in which we climbed 17 peaks on the trip. I also hiked from Bishop Pass to Sawmill pass, so that country was pretty familiar to me 45 years ago. I'd love to have a zero day in the Wright lakes area. When we did the JMT in 1971 we climbed the peaks in the area, and got great views of Tulyinyo Lake. We climbed Barnard, Russel, Carrillion, Tunnabora, the peaks that surround the lake.

Sounds like a great time! Did this year's snow affect your timing at all? I'm figuring on leaving my plans open until I get a better handle on the snow season. Just in case you hadn't, this popped up on a FB link. Resupply points, supply hauling services etc. www.pcta.org/discover-the-trail/john-muir-trail/

This years snow hasn't affected me yet, because the trip is in July 2016. The resupply info is appreciated. Thanks. R
