I recently hiked to the impressive Devil's Falls, near Pittston, along Gardner Creek, upstream of the Gardner Reservoir. The falls are quite a sight, a towering cascade; it is surely one of the most impressive falls in the state, about 70-80 feet tall. The entire series of cascades might exceed 100 feet in height. The current seems to criss-cross as it drops down the bedrock. There are huge boulders above the falls, and more cascades under hemlocks. The creek above the falls was beautiful as it had carved into the bedrock as large house-sized boulders rose above twisted mountain laurel bushes. There was also a good view across the glen from a ledge with stunted pine and oak trees. A beautiful place hiding in plain sight.
