I did it in a "regular" (i.e. suburban Mom) clearance AWD Toyota Rav 4.
That's not to say that I would recommend it. Clearance was an issue at some points, and in 3-4 different places, I had to back down, gather more momentum, and try again at the steep hills. One such spot had loose dirt on the surface and was creepily exposed to the steep slope down to the side. It was a genuinely sphincter-puckering moment the 4-5 attempts it took me to get up and over it.
It's a stretch to do that road in that type of vehicle.
I was highly motivated to primitive camp at the Brush Creek Trailhead (excellent primitive camping there) to avoid contact with civilization. Otherwise, I probably would have eschewed the Brush Creek road altogether and gone to the Rock Creek TH. (We were hiking up Slate Creek, so entering from Brush Creek TH saved us only the aggravation of how up-and-down the Gore Range Trail is from Rock Creek to Slate Creek, not any significant distance.)

If you are still in the area, look me up. I'm in Gunnison.

Yeah, next time you come to Colorado, let me know ahead of time. I may be able to give you a place to stay for a night or two, or at least go on a hike. I knew you were heading to the Gore Range, so never considered that you'd make it over here.
