I am signed up for the Robidoux gravel ride in late September, and was contemplating sticking around for a few days. Just wondering about additional riding and hiking options nearby. I plan to ride and hike the Scottsbluff monument, and maybe ride some of the gravel in the Nebraska Nat'l Forest to the north. Possibly even float the Niobara, though I am not sure September water levels would be an issue.
Any recommendations appreciated. I love the wide open spaces of the high plains!

Jack one of the absolute best posters these forums have ever had lives in Eastern Wyoming and knows that part of the world quite well. If TravisNWood does not see this we'll send out the Cybersearch Party.
One of my best buddies and one of his from our college days are riding the Great Divide, think Fat Tire. I'll be resupplying them a couple of times in August. If you have time to get further West he'll have lots of photos by September. Whatever you do have an awesome time man!

I remember Travis. Hopefully he will chime in.
I rode the Black Hills in September 2017. Absolutely loved it. Spearfish Canyon, Needles Highway and Mt Rushmore were some great rides. Some nice climbs and fast descents. Great pavement too.

I drove through there on my LONG..circuitous route, trying to get out of the State wide grid lock, and get back home from the Great Eclipse in Wyoming a couple of years ago...
There was a lot of very interesting country a few miles south of Scottsbluff off of Hwy 71 that piqued my intrest. You'll have to check on public access..
edit: search for Wildcat Hills...spectacular scenery as seen from the highway

I remember a very memorable 4th of July n Scottsbluff... the most private fireworks I've ever seen, and the only public show I've been to where you could sit practically within reach of the launchers.
