Hi all, Anyone have recommendations for a one night backpacking trip within 2 hours of Philadelphia? Loop or Out and back is fine. We'll be doing it with kids aged 9/11/13 -- they're strong backpackers (have done e.g., the Whites and mountains in Colorado), but if we're doing much elevation change we move slow. 5-15 miles in length total is what we're looking for across the two days, ideally with water (stream lake etc.) where we camp. Thanks for your input! All best, Katie

I'd suggest the south loop of the Pinchot Trail. If you're willing to go a little further, do the Loyalsock Trail to the Haystacks or Sones Pond.

You could go from Batsto to Lower Forge Camp (right next to a river) in the Pine Barrens. It's on the short side of your mileage range, so if you wanted you could add a 7 mile round-trip day-hike to the Apple Pie Hill Tower, although tower access is unfortunately closed.
