I think we all have camped at spots that were somehow unique. Maybe after a long day's hike you couldn't believe your eyes when you stumbled upon the perfectly soft piece of grass to put your tent on. Maybe there was a waterfall with a view and enough space for a tent. Was it a sky finally clearing out after days of rain and a camping spot with a magnificent sunset? What ever your memorable campsite may be, share a photo of it here! I'll start off: This spot we found while hiking around the Cap de la Hague in Normandy (Spring 2016). It was a small islet, which we could reach on foot on low tide but got separated from land, once the tide came in. The grass was superbly soft and provided a comfortable place to sleep. We were absolutely knackered after a days walk in a scorching heat and could not have imagined anything better! The sun setting over the sea placed a cherry on top of this cake.

Lake George, NY. Overnight on the Tongue. Maybe not the most special/exciting campsite, but definitely one of my better photos! A camp at Rainbow L, Wind River range in a hail/snow/sleet/rain storm was the most memorable. Wasn't sure where I was at the time having walked up the wrong drainage on a 14 mile day. First time with the tent in those conditions. The foot collapsed enough to wet out the foot of the sleeping bag. Made for an interesting night and next day as I walked out in a thunder-hailstorm, only to run into a bear as dusk set in.

Cool photo oldbill! Quite a trip too, of which you tell about. Might be enough to send a weaker soul into despair! :D

This spot,on a small lake in the Beartooths, has got to be our favorite.

There have been so many... Most of mine have been in high mountain areas, but in terms of something a little different, this camp in a shaded grotto in the Middle Fork Gila Canyon is definitely on the list. We had a shaded, chest-deep swimming hole right in our camp (those were fairly rare), and the frog chorus after dark was amazing. We slept with the fly off the tent and the night sky was incredible.

Here's another one of mine: my first visit to Bubble Lake, Gore range, CO Our camp is practically impossible to spot in this pic. The tent is light green, partially blocked by a small tree...

A zillion to choose from, well maybe a hundred or so memorable(s). In this case Dutton Point, Powell Plateau, GCNP, AZ, Saturday, September 13, 2020. Recent, perfect weather, plus I always love to the max, pitching the tent in an open Ponderosa Pine forest with thousands of those big, soft, non-invasive ponderosa pine needles to sleep on. The ponderosa pines are also excellent to lean against with no pine pitch and natural cushion. Pitch Perfect

Also, they let in a lot of light and solar warmth. I so often camp near or above treeline--I often find lower elevation timbered camps a little dark. But not Ponderosa forest.

This one ranks way up there for me. Forest floor of smooth pine needles sitting above the lake for good views.

I've had a number of special spots, for different reasons. First night backpacking with my 4 year old son, just a rock outcrop in the Mazatzal...nothing scenic, just special. The top of Whitney with my thru hike trail family. And some for their stunning beauty.

I have a new entry for this thread now...Sunlight Lake, Needle Range (San Juans, CO) Only problem was that it is always windy there.
It had perpetual mountain goats (they're in the background of the first pic), but this time I was smart. I've learned (from experience) to always pee well away from camp in goat country.

Off trail in the Supes. A thorny prospect. The stream was a blessing.

At "The Tights," a canyon narrows on a remote tributary to the Arkansas River in Colorado. This camp is set in late May 2020 with my two adult daughters. We fell asleep with fireflies -- rare in Colorado -- dancing around us. The Tights is a "spread my ashes here" kind of place for me.
