Hi folks! I'm looking for some help here trying to find a suitable day pack (24-30L range) that fits someone with a long torso (21 1/2"). Does the community have any recommendations that won't have my kidney pad up into my rib cage? Thanks!

I would recommend you get a lightweight backpack instead. Much easier to find and won't flop around like daypacks do.

OR, depending on your use, a bike messenger bag? That's torso length independent.

Thanks for the replies - I've tried the messenger bag route and for some reason I couldn't keep the strap from riding up the side of my neck without having to keep it pulled down (just got uncomfortable around mile 3).
Tigger - I'm not sure what you mean by a lightweight backpack. I thought that's what day packs were (no sarcasm intended - I'm new to the terminology and not sure what you mean).

A daypack tends to be one of those book bag size packs that don't have a real waistband, etc.
A "backpack" usually has aluminum stays, conforms to your back, and a waistband that will support the weight (as light as it may be). Go to REI and start trying on packs. They come in large, which would normally fit a 21.5" torso.

HMG DAYBREAKThe only daypack I am aware of that comes in sizes is this one from HMG. It's a 17L pack. Should be sufficient volume for a day hike. Comes in small, medium and large. The large being 19.0+ Torso. My experience with them has been positive as wanting to try several sizes for proper fit, purchased multiple packs. After selecting the best fit, returned the others. The refund was very quick. Might be worth a try. Tigger suggestion of moving up to a backpack creates lots of options. Good luck!

Also daypacks for nordic skiing might be an option. In order to keep the space open for the arm swing backwards they tend to often have a more vertical design, so for a given volume they'd be longer than their hiking counterparts.

So my girlfriend was able to find a day pack (34L) that fit my torso. At our local REI they had an Osprey Stratos that fit up to a 23" torso. While it was a perfect fit I'm curious to see how my first field test will go.
Thanks for all the suggestions, folks!
