This is a Backpacking community (carry gear on back in the wilderness). This is not a "travel from city to city with pack and stay in hostels/hotels" type of backpacking forum.

That cover looks o.k. to me. I always carried a guitar I wasn't too concerned about getting damaged, so a stuff sack over the body was the most I ever did.

not sure about it’s efficency Most guitar cases will only get you about 18 miles to the gallon, tread softly.

If it's not going to be carried alone but rather strapped to an actual backpack maybe a doubled garden litter trash bag will do? Cheap, waterproof and lightweight. All the extras of a gig bag being unnecessary.

I'm not planning, as you may think tigger, to go from hostel to hostel, from city to city. I'm probably gonna be walking, hitchhiking and sleeping in a tent most of the time. Thanks for your reply though, very helpful . I will probably strap it to the backapck and put on litter trash bags anwyay. But I still want to protect it, even if that means a little more weight. I'll see how I end up doing. Thank you for the help guys

Thanks for your reply though, very helpful . The reason for my reply was that you might get better responses at a forum that actually focuses on that type of thing. Most wilderness backpackers don't tend to carry guitars vs. walking on the side of the road. We tend to carry bare minimum supplies to keep our gear weight down.

We took a guitar backpacking last summer, and used the typical cheap guitar case with the guitar covered by two trash compactor bags. We hung the guitar from a pack, so it wasn't carried by the arms. We also had trash bags on the outside of the case, which got banged up, scratched, ripped, etc. Luckily it didn't rain. It was a $75 guitar which just happened to sound great.
