I happened to be awake for the finish of the Daytona NASCAR race. Huge crash right before the finish and amazing that one driver (Dillon) walked away after his car hit the retaining fence above the track as he went airborne from the inside of the lane and flew across the lane above other cars. His engine flew out of his car. I am guessing if this accident occurred 20 years ago, not only would he have been dead, but fans protected by the fence, would have been killed also. www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRhNXrzMfew

Nasty. Good thing that fence was there.

I watched it too and thought I'd seen a racing fatality "live" for the first time even though I've been a NASCAR fan since 1963. They make those driver compartments very strong and safe compared to years ago. I even see where it carries over into "real life." When my wife was clobbered in our Malibu a few years ago, I saw much of the same thing, the compartment where people sit wasn't damaged even though the car itself was totaled.
