echo, do you have holly and ivy growing along with your blackberry vines? If so, you have some good sources for wreaths. dayhiker, I must really be out of touch. I haven't bought coffee in some years; still have some left from a purchase a few years ago. Haven't bought bulk food either, although I almost bought cases of pureed foods for my father when he was still alive. I found some photos and see what you're referring to. Yes, I think they could work, after being completely sanitized. Good suggestion; they'd fit right into the top seam and could be bent to fit a specific individual. Whoever would have thought that something that basic could be recycled for medical use? rangewalker, that photo looks so peaceful, warm, and a nice place to be, away from civilization.

“echo, do you have holly and ivy growing along with your blackberry vines? If so, you have some good sources for wreaths“ autumnmist the neighbors house has two large (10 foot) holly bushes trimmed like cones, flanking their driveway and I only have one spot where we have long runners of holly in with the ivy and rhododendrons and the ubiquitous blackberries. I have massive amounts of greenery in December for certain, and the inspiration of my husband’s oldest sister to use it as decorations. I’m more likely to use it at school than at home because of limited space and thirty years of holiday decorations.

swmtnbackpacker, that article is one of the best I've read. Addressing the immune system and foods that support it is my interpretation of an approach that's just as important as avoiding people and crowds. And, that author is Armenian - what could be better?! When the immediate threats have eventually been contained (and I'm hopeful on that aspect), a lot of research should hopefully address underlying and related issues, including boosting immune systems. Chicken soup with broccoli sounds like a good plan for today. And broccoli and spinach are good additions to salads, so nutrients aren't lost through cooking. Thanks for sharing such a helpful article.

thirty years of holiday decorations. We went through our family's decorations, all the way back to childhood, and donated them some years ago. Now I wish I had them, especially after seeing an article on the value of some of those old decorations. But wait! There's still the attic. Who knows what I'll find when I clean that out?

Executives on quarantine turn their whole organizations into machines for generating and distributing status information. This contractor operates like they are one slightly unhappy person away from losing the contract. Hmmmm...lol Got the email yesterday afternoon that we're home for another week. While I'd like to have the full-sized keyboard and dual monitors here, I am not minding that I don't have to make the detoured drive in and home everyday. Not one bit. I might have burned 1/4 tank of gas in the two weeks mostly just picking up groceries (curbside) for us and a couple of neighbors.

Re' isolation. I've a large tureen. Just finished making a bucket load of vegetable chicken soup/stew. Frozen in meal sizes. Now have 9 meals sorted anyhow! Hurray for books, crosswords and computers! ...and with time to fill I've finally cracked the Rubik's cube that has taunted for far too long.

Realize that we don’t usually go out anyway, so aside from rethinking groceries (having gotten the big shopping done, I’ll probably try for deliveries to reduce the risk that I’m ill and might spread it (I really wished there were some way to get from the ship to home without all those airports and planes!).
My big project, which is turning out to be bigger than I expected. I realized that I need not just to make a little space in the guest room for Second Son, but to really clear it out so it will be HIS room. He expects to be here through the end of the summer (until Fall quarter starts), so I don’t want him to feel like he’s just “camping” there. I also want to get it done before he gets here, so he doesn’t feel like he’s caused some kind of disruption or something.

He expects to be here through the end of the summer (until Fall quarter starts), Ours came home for Spring Break, then got the message that break was extended a week, followed by virtual classes for a week (starts today). They decided the next week just to finish the semester with virtual classes. He's trying to get a jump on summer jobs...has a contact at the golf course just through the woods from our house. Course maintenance is very suitable to social distancing. lol

Our neighborhood is filled with returning unlaunched and semi-launched young adults. They appear to be mixing a lot with each other in close proximity, not just in family groups, so I don't have high hopes for the effectiveness of this isolation.

We do have the advantage that our boys don’t actually know anyone here, since they never lived here before we moved. Their social interactions will be online, just like mine (I don’t know anyone here, either, aside from the family and casual acquaintance with a couple of neighbors).

Although the notion of any book or online computer display studying will put significant numbers of people to sleep, there is a vast amount of such on the web now including free materials. We are all so lucky in this Internet era to have such resources available that I personally have been using extensively since the 90s. Using such online sites doesn't necessarily mean taking a course as one can just dabble here and there reading a page or three of interest. And that includes much about natural sciences that can increase one's enjoyment of the natural world when one is out there hiking, exploring, and backpacking.
Our human brains are what we make it during our lives as neuroplasticity is far more important than science ever imagined just a couple decades ago. Fill it with knowledge and good things and one's life blossoms.

Woodworking. Used some scraps of red oak to make this shoe rack. Still needs to be stained and varnished but the woodworking is done. Would have been a lot faster to buy one, but I've got plenty of time.
