The rest are all smells, ... freshly ground coffee ... They are all detected not in the mouth, but in your sinuses... Which is why I'll never understand how people can drink coffee through a tiny hole in a lid on an insulated mug. Might as well take your caffeine intravenously.

Today I finally got around to getting refunds from British Air (Scotland) and Delta (Louisiana). Those spring trips were obviously cancelled, fall trips didn't happen, either, and I don't have any reasonable hope for the spring of 2021.
Work restrictions are constantly changing. For a while I wasn't allowed to travel more than 100 miles without permission, and it could happen again.
I'm hoping for a good fall trip in 2021, and I'm not thinking that it will be a backpacking trip, but just a little get outta Dodge trip to a nice little festival I know, and where I have some friends.
I think I've got about seven weeks of leave at this point, just sittin' there doin' nuthin'.

Just my thoughts, but it may take a lot longer for the vaccine to get around and people are apparently resistant to getting it even if they have the opportunity. I hear you on the wanting to get out of Dodge. This is getting old; unfortunately it is unlikely to be safely possible for quite a while.

Just my thoughts, but it may take a lot longer for the vaccine to get around and people are apparently resistant to getting it even if they have the opportunity... Here’s the start of a roll out plan similar to other states elderly family have told me about (first healthcare workers, second nursing home residents and then third in my parents state are those over 80: www.wfla.com/community/health/coronavirus/desantis-outlines-plan-to-distribute-pfizers-covid-19-vaccine-in-florida/Then more elderly will follow at which time businesses are going to be on a rampage to open. Many wealthy and smart elderly retirees will want to head out after staying at home for so long too. I’m not seeing the courts keeping businesses closed frankly after the elderly get their shots. The one complication may be now various industries want their workers to get the shot sooner (less supply) .... Wall Street Journal: Meatpackers, airlines, others argue their workers should be essential to get vaccine earlyvs more vaccines being approved (more supply) as Moderna should be approved next week and there’s 3 more in the pipeline. Of course whether employers can force vaccinations is probably best left to the Political Arena (think I’m not touching a cold deli sandwich til I get my proven shots).

I'm not intending to provoke an argument, but I think that first responders, including law enforcement, need to be high on the priority list. They don't have the option of choosing the people with whom they interact, and I think it's insulting not to consider them, notwithstanding all the publicity about controversial police actions.
I had wondered if there would be contested priority plans.

Unfortunately, it might take some convincing. As I posted elsewhere, 55% of the FDNY say they won't take the vaccine ( link). The fire department is starting an education campaign ( link).

Holy changing lifestyles Batman!!! Here’s something of interest with likely more younger people in mind (but maybe some middle agers too). More dropped their apartments in hard hit (or lockdowned) cities in exchange for long term AirBnBs on coastal Mexico or the American burbs. Whether the trend lasts past the vaccine (at least partially) ... who knows? www.cnbc.com/2020/12/12/airbnb-nomads-ditch-apartments-during-covid.htmlAirBnB just had its initial stock offering which is why it made the news, but there may be some other short-term rental companies out there. Could lead to an increase in the “ex-pat” movement over time. Looks like Ben2world from the old forums was a sage ... Coastal Mexico is sounding good about now...

One of the biggest changes for me - questioning every single symptom. I have year long allergies and they are right on schedule... plus my first ever subconjunctival(?) hemorrhage (broke a blood vessel in my eye) scared me to death one morning. Transient sore throats, as the heater comes on more often and it's colder. The dry cough I usually get is scary to people. It's scary to me - am I really sick?
Is this pain in my back a kidney thing, or am I just using the desk cycle too much? Are my toes red because my shoes were rubbing or is it covid toes?
Is that person behind me who's coughing wearing a mask? Is that person I just passed in the hall sniffling?
Fever checks and O2 checks every morning.
Emails to my doctor.
I'm mostly sure the morning headaches are a combo of sinusitis and dehydration...

Sounds like me. But I've decided that my main problem is that I am getting older. My doc agrees.

almostthere, a friend an I have a running joke about “I’ve got COVID for the 17th time” due to that exact problem. I have a similar cough, exacerbated by talking, so when I’m around other people, I cough more... Not a good look!

Whether the trend lasts past the vaccine (at least partially) ... who knows? My uncle in Ocala was going to sell his condo in the Keys. He's no longer able to go boating much and it had become a drain on his resources. My cousins and their children turned it into a rental, which even under the restrictive association terms turned it into a big winner.

almostthere I have been like that all year, because I deal with year-round allergies. My sinuses are always a mess, and this time of year, it's not unusual for me to have sore throats. So when my throat started hurting two weeks ago, I didn't think anything of it. Two days later, when I no longer had a sore throat, but I was very stuffy and running a slight fever, it was time to get checked. Sure enough, I was positive. I never had the fatigue, high fever, or cough that a lot of people get. And from everything I read, sinus issues are actually rare with COVID. Those were my main symptoms, which are normal for me. But then I lost my taste and smell. Sure sign. I still don't have that back. I think a lot of people are paranoid about every little cough from another person. The person I most likely got it from is another teacher. She is very good about wearing her mask, as am I, but we were closer than 6 feet for about an hour. Masks + distance= better chances of not getting it.
