All during January we were experiencing a real snow drought. Hardly any precipitation in the valley and only a couple of inches in the nearby mountains. Then the first week of February the storms started to move in. We sill don’t have much snow in town but the mountains have been getting dumped on nearly every day. Our local ski resort has gotten over six feet this month. I went up earlier this week and yesterday and honestly, it’s the most powder I’ve ever skied in. Now, if I could just learn to ski it properly. BTW, I just checked and it’s dumping again today. It makes me happy.

Usually, I love snow. It covers the ground with a lovely coat of fluffy white, sometimes with crystalline dots which sparkle in the sun and remind me of diamonds. And it gives me a chance to learn which littler critters are visiting the area. I even like shoveling, as long as it's not really, really heavy and wet. hikerjer, I'm glad you're getting some snow this year and enjoying it. Although I often gripe about Winter and snow, they have so much to offer. And it's especially nice to get a good workout then come in and enjoy hot chocolate, although I suspect most of the folks here like something stronger. Enjoy your skiing and adventures in the snow.

JHMR set a record for January snow before the middle of the month. Last winter the town of Jackson set its February Snow Record. We should get a fair amount here this weekend too. Better than fires. We sure do thaw out a lot more than we used to.

That’s definitely wide. Unfortunately this is not the norm and they’d probably sit in the closet most of the time. Besides, I need new bots. Can’t have it all. But in a perfect world - - -

We basically had no snow in the valley here for Dec and January, then it started snowing 2 weeks ago. Our snow pack is currently sitting at 115% of normal, which is pretty good given the paucity of snow early on.

We've been getting rain instead of snow all year. When you mention "Winter in Syracuse", I'm sure most people don't think "Constant flood watches". We FINALLY got a good dumping about 2 weeks ago, and it's held. The local ski resorts were finally able to open in their entirety. The skiing on Saturday was spectacular.
