I don't care for instant, but I never found a dark roast version. If you can find it, you might give the VIA Italian Roast a try. It is the darkest roast they have and, IMHO, the best. Might just have to keep an eye out for it. Thanks!

Just about to order some Via coffee. All the Starbucks coffee I have ever tried has been WAY too strong (granted, I just used whatever was available or offered to me). I prefer a light to medium roast. Anyone familiar enough with the product to point me in the right direction? I know some may indicate light or medium, but that doesn't always hold true with all brands.
Thank you

Hiya! After many, many years of making cowboy coffee, now, after much experimentation with different grind settings, I just make my own "coffee-bags" with beans I grind at home. Tastes great! Yeah, there's added ounces to my pack but, good coffee is worth it! No mess and easy to pack out, too.

I have a friend who prefers lighter bodied coffee, and this is her favorite version (after lots of trial and error!) Save

...I just make my own "coffee-bags"... Did you steal my method? Theif. LOL. What did your avatar guy add to his coffee? Looks like he added a bit more horespower to his coffee. Speaking of coffee... off to the kitchen to brew up some for the morning. Ah yes, sleeping in feels wonderful. On a side note, I did a couple rounds of coffee with that method (giant tea bag method) a couple weekends ago on my trip. The group I was with didn't drink any coffee so I was alone in my caffeine fix. One bag did a great job each time. That gave me the right strength for a regular size cup (not measuring cup, maybe more) and a half a regular cup to follow it up with afterwards. Not too strong or weak. Easy clean up.

My avatar gnaws on Chuck Norris's skull for breakfast, hangingt. I wish I went out with people who don't drink coffee! My friends don't always bring their own and beg for mine after a day! It was kinda sad watching one guy use the same coffee-bag four times.

After years of using this technique I finally got it together to make a video about it. I had written it up and posted it on rec.backcountry when I first started doing it so that says something about how long this took to get to. Anyway here is a link to the video: A lightweight way to make camp coffeeErnie

Alas, to facillitate up, out, and on the trail in 30ish minutes, I have devolved, this summer, to cafeine infused gu's. Maple bacon cafeine gu is not too bad, does give me a jolt-of-go, and I can slup it down whiles on the move. I know a very sad way to get a cuppa but up, out, and go in 30min has been the goal. But wait, right now as I type this, I am, also, sipping on some burr ground Kona.

@idahowalker I will never be desperate enough for that! I'm fine with us taking 1 1/2 hours or less to get out, with a full breakfast including my coffee. We just get up early.

That's my method for brewing coffee when car camping, too as it's easy to dump the grinds & filter(s). However, I found that method to be a drag when backpacking for a week or more! The waste took up too much space and added "wet weight" as it would take more time than I was willing to wait for them to dry out. I try to limit my buried waste in the backcountry and pack out the spent grinds.

Coffee Singles by Folgers, I believe, coffee in a tea bag The Folgers singles are a mix of coffee grounds and instant coffee. I used to use them before Starbucks Via came along.

Any coffee bags I've ever stumbled on have produced a sort of tea-colored drink with scarcely a hint of coffee flavor.
