I've seen this -- I'll give it a try. I haven't seen it, but I'll be looking for it now. Any idea what stores carry it?

For the price might be worth trying. A lot of packs if you don't like it.

I buy Cafe Bustelo in jars and put it in a baggy. Not quite the kick of Via, but bought in jars, must be less than a third of the price. Unlike some instants, it dissolves in non-boiling water. Via will dissolve in barely warm water. I don't boil water for coffee if I don't need to , I can't temper it with milk when I'm on the trail. Saves fuel, saves burnt lips and tongue. I like it better than Medalia D'oro.

For the record, I just bought a silicone coffee cone like This, to use car camping as well as in our temporary digs (not for backpacking; it’s too heavy for that). I wanted it because it’s not bulky (for the camping gear), and was cheap. My take: not so good. The cone isn’t large and deep enough for even the single-cup paper liners, and it has a tendency to collapse on one side. They also failed to include vents, so on some coffee cups it creates a nice seal, preventing the coffee from dripping through! LIkewise, the paper tends to adhere to the silicone, and doesn’t drip well. Maybe some of these (more expensive ones) work well, but not this. I’ll make do, because I still don’t want to pay megabucks for a filter holder, but it’s only a small step above the ultra-light filter on stilts that I got several years ago.

zeke, I saw all those, and considered several. I picked the silicone cone because it collapses to take almost no space in our kitchen box. Maybe I can find one yet that collapses on demand--and not otherwise

April just used the hard Melitta cones. Surely there is some room in your car camping gear that would allow for such a small thing.

My day (work, backpacking or otherwise) can't start without a GOOD shot or cup of coffee. I roast my own espresso and coffee. To brew in the backcountry I bring this. It's heavy at 15 ounces, but I save weight everywhere else and coffee is a priority for me. You'll see me use this in all my videos on YouTube as well as the videos I'm in with Joey from "My Own Frontier"

It's called a "Handpresso Wild". It pulls a pretty good shot of espresso. After dinner I'll make a caffe americano. But in the morning, a shot or two will get the day started. And of course...use my own, roasted, coffee or espresso rather than the pods you can buy for it. youtu.be/nNPom88Ogt4?t=3210
