Saw a couple of coyotes sniffing around houses in town about a month ago. They were just across the street. They glanced at me when I stopped to cross the road but pretty much ignored me. Keep your kitties inside is my advice.

A couple years ago there were wild boar roaming downtown Utica. Last week I saw a herd of (8?) deer in downtown Syracuse. I'm not urban, more like sub-rural, so I see lots of animals. The most intriguing have been black bear, fisher, and a resident golden eagle (or pterodactyl, they're pretty similar). Also a silver fox (which I later learned is a color morph of a red fox). Occasionally, I wake up to a great horned owl hooting from our chimney. Beavers have done plenty of damage to my property. The burbs in southwestern mountain towns sometimes lure mountain lions in for a quick meal. Fifi the poodle, left out in the yard, ain’t coming back (coyote, cougar, ..).

I live in a residential section miles within a very urban part of the San Jose area that given our Mediterranean climate is very green with ornamental trees and vegetation. There are lots of half century old tall ornamental trees all along my street including American sweetgum aka liquidamber. A large population of alien noisy eastern gray squirrels subsist on an abundant annual crop of sweetgum spiny nut pods. Occasionally raccoons explore our zone by way of the storm drain to creek systems. Other than that we have numbers of different bird species with ravens, robins, sparrows, and pigeons most common.

Some of our area residents are not practiving social distancing very well and are actually crowding in around St. John's Hospital, seen here behind these guys and girls this morning, March 31, 2020.
