I've been working out every day, but at levels ranging from a slow 20-25 minute run, to a short bike ride and weights, to a swim/bike combo, to long bike rides. This weekend, instead of a single 40+ mile ride, I rode 34.3 on Friday (but without any real climbing), and another 33 today (with a lot more hills). In between, yesterday, I staggered around the park for 20 minutes. Somewhere in here I'll probably need to take a real rest day, but so far the "running" days have qualified pretty well.

Feel better, RumiDude! Saturday morning I did Week 4 Day 1. It went okay, but just okay. I ran with the dogs again at our Dog Park/Open Space. It's nice to be able to run and not have them on leash. They catch up after sniffing, eventually. I got a little sidetracked during the second run, though. I ran into another cattle dog and sat and chatted with it's Mom for a bit while the dogs played. I must have cooled down enough to make my runs feel a little harder. I ended up walking the last part of the one run. I did fine for the last 3 minute run. The 2 middle runs were 4 minute runs. I am getting there. My next run will be tomorrow morning. That will be interesting. 3 min Run, 2 min Walk, 5 min Run, 3 min Walk, 5 min Run, 3 min Walk, 3 min Run, 2 min Walk. Those 5 minute runs are going to be FUN! Per the 5k Runner, I will be "Halfway to 5k" in two more runs.

Saturday (Nov 19) - 4 mile run with my daughter, taking advantage of the 74F day. Sun (Nov 20) - Began snowing... shovel and yardwork Mon (Nov 21) - Still snowing... shovel, XC ski 3.5 miles in a snowstorm (knee-deep unconsolidated snow), shovel Tues (Nov 22) - Still snowing... shovel (30" total snowfall) Wed (Nov 23) - Downhill ski Thurs (Nov 24) - 4.4 mile Turkey Trot with my daughter Fri (Nov 25) - XC ski 4 miles Sat (Nov 26) - Housework / yardwork. Sun (Nov 27) - Run 2.7 hilly trail miles. Been away from hills too long... and suffered for it. P90X workout.
Now that I've signed up for the Spartan Race, I'll be transitioning away from running toward more P90X/Insanity and weight lifting (with some hill running thrown into the mix).

It must have been the two back to back runs. Might be. When I did that program I almost always did it with a rest day in between. I really felt it when I didn't have that day off during the first few weeks of the program. Once my back is well enough to start back running (been off for a few months...badly pulled muscle then disc issues) I may have to go through it again.

Whiles running, several weeks ago, I saw this girl running on the track and her right knee was wobbling with each footfall. On one of her walk laps, I walked next to her to mention the knee wobble and how she may correct for it, I suggested a knee beace and to run like she was riding a bicycle.
She came up to me today and offered me a generous amount of thanks. She had talked to her mom about my observation. Her mom told her there is a genetic condition that runs in the family and she may have it. She told me she saw a Dr. Ends up she is getting a brace for each knee. The knee braces, she said, will help her correct her gait and may prevent more severe knee issues later on in life.

Well, I have gone and done it. I should have seen this coming, knowing how clutzy I am. Yesterday morning I was doing Week 4 Day 3 of my 5k runner. I was on the street that goes around Celestial Seasoning (yeah, the tea). There usually aren't a lot of cars around that circle, but everyone was coming into work. I was watching for cars as it was still dawn. A car started pulling out of a driveway in front of me, so I got over to the left a little more to avoid in case he didn't see me. Unfortunately, I didn't look down to see a pot hole, which I stepped in, twisted my left ankle and went down hard on my hands and knees. My knees took the brunt of the impact. Road rash and bruising. I was wearing bicycling gloves (they have some palm padding), so my hands are only a little bruised. My ankle is puffy and sore, it appears to be a minor sprain. So, looks like I'll be taking a little break while resting and healing my wounds. 4 steps forward, 2 steps back.....

msdoolittle When you are able start doing the ABC's with the sprained ankle, to help with rehab. With your big toe, foot off the floor, trace out the ABC's with your big toe.

Insult to injury, I now have a cold! And my 5k runner app decided this morning was a good time to go for a run. Hmph. ;-|
The software engineers should have installed a button the user can press that says "I'm sick".
The sprain I endured was pretty minor and my ankle, while feeling weak, is actually doing pretty well. Hoping I feel well enough for a Thursday morning run. Cold be damned.

msdoolittle , one thing I learned (many) years ago is that if I had a mild cold that running actually made me feel better. It had to be mild, whether it was a cold or something similar. If it was "bad", running didn't help, and probably made me feel more miserable. Decades later I learned that exercise like that prompts the body to secrete a little bit of adrenilin, which is a natural antihistamine. So at least my head/sinuses cleared up a bit.
