We saw numerous waterfalls, pools, moss covered ledges and boulders, and old growth hemlocks. The trees faded into the cool mist, creating a spooky setting. The waterfalls were gorgeous, flowing well after recent rains. We decided to do a frigid ford of Hoagland Branch to complete the loop. We had to fight the strong current to cross, but the water barely reached over my knee. My feet soon re-warmed after some vigorous hiking. We walked along Hoagland Branch, a stream well-known for its beauty, in the deepening twilight as side stream waterfalls tumbled down.
