I see the Lighthouse, that is! Hello from Ivory Island Lighthouse, y'all! DSC00667 by Cory Lindsay, on Flickr Still got my Bud with me. DSC00126 by Cory Lindsay, on Flickr It's pretty darn pretty out here! DSC00182 by Cory Lindsay, on Flickr DSC00354b by Cory Lindsay, on Flickr DSC00529_cr by Cory Lindsay, on Flickr So, as ya's may have guessed, I did indeed get the job as a Lighthouse Keeper and in the exact area I hoped for. Like, EXACTLY where I hoped to be! (Yup! I'm pretty lucky, and pretty darn happy!) lol! My job is fairly straightforward, but takes a bit of on-site training. mainly, it's using landmarks like mountains, marker lights and land points to gauge cloud heights, visibility, etc. I have to do the weather report every 3 hours starting at 4 am. (Nope, they don't expect me to stay up between 4:35 am and 7am between reports! lol! (Thank goodness!) Anyhoo, just popped in for an update, and I dunno when I'll be back online. I should have my own satellite internet connection in a couple weeks. (Borrowing the Principal Lightkeeper's internet for a couple hours, and I'm lucky I got those! Righty then, I'll say chow for now, and hopefully it won't be another 2 months between updates! Cheers! Cory

Hello, TJCeeJay ! Sitting on the couch this morning and saw your post, so went out and read the history - lots of interesting stories. Small island, strong sea, stronger men. The drone video of the island on the Facebook page makes the size of the island very clear. www.facebook.com/IvoryIsland/videos/951376208305165Told the wife, "This might be fun ... lots of silence, no interruptions!" She replied that I'd probably last about 2 days, and she wouldn't even consider it w/o cable, news, the internet and nearby restaurants. Oh well ...

Beautiful spot. I might get a little claustrophobic (I need space for lots of vigorous exercise—I guess I could take up kayaking!), but it looks like a great writer’s retreat Enjoy your new home.

Thanks! And thanks everyone! It's actually a peninsula connected to a much larger island by a causeway. Got about 3 miles of trails already in place, and myself with the other lightkeeper are increasing that number every weekend. :-) Told the wife, "This might be fun ... lots of silence, no interruptions!" She replied that I'd probably last about 2 days, and she wouldn't even consider it w/o cable, news, the internet and nearby restaurants. Oh well ... Xplornet is gonna be my internet, and I don't need TV, but there is satellite TV, of course! ;-) Righty then, thanx a bunch again! Hope to chat again soon! Cheers!

Xplornet is gonna be my internet, and I don't need TV, but there is satellite TV, of course! With satellite TV and internet, I could handle it for a while, say about 6-9 months. But I'd need to build a still or make home brew. Hey TJCeeJay; assume you won't be visiting back for a while. Googled your island, looks pretty cool. Sea kayaking fishing, crabbing, hunting, storm watching, starry night skies, etc. Wish I would have had your inclination back in thhe day; looks like a lifestyle I would have truly enjoyed in my younger days.

TJCeeJay If you've never read it, Mike Tomkies book, A World of My Own: Adventure and Personal Renewal in the Wilderness is worth a read... set on the BC coast.

bradmacmt - just ordered it on your recommendation. Cool! I hope you like it. I think I read it the year, or one year just after it came out. I've still got my copy... it's probably time for a re-read.

Beautiful and adventurous. If I were there, I'd probably hear voices in the wind and waves. Best wishes to you and Bud.
