You'd be surprised. Velvet ants are pretty big.

Google velvet ant images. You'll find what you're looking for.

If that was an ant it was a huge ant. Much larger than a carpenter ant. Velvet Ants aren't really ants, they're wingless wasps. They're pretty common in the Supes, and they are indeed huge.

Not a great picture because of the speed it was moving and I only had my phone camera, but hummingbird moths are pretty cool looking.

I know it's not an insect, but this seemed like a good place to post this guy. I know they are pests, but I think they are neat. I relocated it out of my garden.

Where it will now eat all of your plants. It was relocated to an area outside the fence. Maybe a bird will get it. Or my dogs. Either way, it was left untouched by me. There are few things I purposely kill. Snails are not one of them.

This is why I take my phone with me on walks. I can take pictures of cool bugs. It's a Cypriacis fasciata, or you can lump it in the group of metallic woodborers.

The picture doesn't do it much justice. It was bright green, but most pictures I've seen online make it look more black, so I guess I did okay considering it wouldn't stand still for the picture.

Spiny backed Orb Weaver we found near our home last weekend. It seems happy.

Ok, now I'm officially jealous of the spiders you guys have in your areas. Nothing that cool near me that I know of.
