I know we have some fabulous photogs in here who have likely sold photos in the past. I need some advice!
I received an email today from a design firm working with the National Park Service:
"I would like to request your permission to use the images in the museum exhibits on behalf of the National Park Service."
There is a lot of info online about how to price photography licensing for print vs digital, but not for display in a museum. Any thoughts on how I should respond? Is it best to just ask for their budget?
Thanks in advance!

I just checked on my BiL’s web page (photoseek.com) to see if I could figure out what he’d charge. It’s not completely clear, but looks like it would be over $200 for the right to use a 16x20 print for 5 years in a display (as a museum).

Thank you! I will check out his site, too! I was thinking $200-$250 seems about right. I have a feeling they want them for free, but it can't hurt to ask for money first.

This is definitely not an answer to your question, but might be slightly helpful.
I am a composer, and much of my music is on commission. Some organizations in my field publish commission fee guidelines, but they are typically very optimistic from the composer's perspective. (i.e. maybe John Williams commands those kinds of fees, but I don't.)
The fee that I might seek for a project depends heavily on how much I'm into writing that particular piece. I generally open these negotiations by figuring a "sticker price" based on some fairly objective formulas. If it's not a piece I'm dying to write, I'll ask for the "sticker price" fee. If it's a project that I am more interested in, a person/organization I'm eager to establish a professional relationship with, a cause I'm interested in supporting (possibly relevant here with your question), I'll offer a certain percentage discount from the sticker price. I think prospective commissioners/buyers find it helpful to be given this information. "My normal fee for this would be $x, but because I would like to support your initiative [or, whatever explanation], I would be willing to accept $y."
