Anyone been to or have comments regarding campsite 61? I have a large group going soon and want to see advantages of 61 vs. 63 such as space and what the site is like. Thanks for any info

There's a creek near 61 that you can day-hike up to an old homestead. It's a pretty easy 2 miles with a fairly established trail that's not on the map.
Sorry, this is wrong.

there's an old homestead near 61? did not know that... i know there were other homesteads along the way.. there's also a few cemeteries along the way if one wants to check those out... also----i found 61 to be a nice site when i stayed there...... it's kinda tucked into the trees and brush..... and right after that----thats where the trail gets steep going up to noland divide....

and for the OP-------whatcha mean by "large group"?
i also believe the Park puts a cap on a group with 8....
and while 61 can handle 8 people-----63 is a much larger site, if memory serves me right...

I'll have probably 5 to 6 guys and wanted to make sure there was plenty of room in case there are other campers at the site. So there's an old home site nearby? Does the trail start at the campsite? and you said 2 miles from camp 1 way? Thanks for the info on the site.

Sorry, my info is WRONG!!!
I was thinking of Bone Valley off of Hazel Creek. There is no such homestead along Noland Creek, although I'm told there's a cemetery around there.
I apologize for my bad trail info.

For the OP---ok....5 or 6 people ain't bad......I was afraid you'd say something like 12 to 14...
Every campsite now needs a reservation so that will determine whether space is available.....
And noland creek has some old homesite along it and you might see some trails not on the map that will have no horses sign on it....
Those generally go to cemeteries...
It's been years but I have visited all the cemeteries along noland....
One trail is kinda hidden on the opposite side of a campsite but can sorta be found easily...
