Looking for suggestions for a one or two nighter in the Laramie Mountains. Have not been here yet and have no real set schedule but have a few days coming up to explore, I think... I love car camping too so any awesome secluded drive up spots anyone willing to share in the Eastern Wyoming area I would love to hear about them?? I will be near Sundance WY starting off and venturing south from there just driving and hiking, exploring for about 5 days. Thanks!

So I will answer this one myself. I made it to the Laramie Range. Not much for backpacking trails but there is a really nice steep trail to the peak of Laramie Mountain, about 10 miles out and back with 2200 feet of gain. I nice small very rustic camp ground at the base where the trail starts. I camped here for two nights. A few other trails around for day hiking. A very dry area with pine and fir. I would visit this area again just for camping and day hiking. I drove southwest from there to the Snowy Range and was able to summit Medicine Bow Peak at about 12,000. Still about 5 feet of snow in places here in mid July but good hiking. A bit of post holing up top. A great place to do an overnighter. There are a few other trails in this area, if you link them or go off trail you can have some backpacking. Plenty of places for dispersed camping and lots of wild life. Cant wait to come back and hike more. Next trip - to the Wind River Range! Any suggestions? Any takers? Maybe early Fall?

I'm on my way to the Winds in about a week. Look for a trip report in the not too distant future.
We're doing an 8-day in-and-back from Elkhart TH with a couple basecamp days from the Knifepoint Creek/Shangri-La area.

Since you were not specific about "where" in the Laramie Range " you were heading, I did not answer. The Snowy Range has many options for an overnight/3 day loop with lots of Alp lands to traverse. But the best of the Best of the BEST Bp'g in the Lower 48 is the Winds.....There is no other region that compare to it....
