Any suggestions for a 10 mile hike in the Bridger or Popo Agie wilderness for good fishing?
Planning a 4 or 5 day Sept. trip - would like to haul to a base camp then day hikes. Haven't been to the winds for 20 years......do the biting flies and skeeters tone down a bit in Sept? We were there in early July last time and got chewed up.

Assuming you are talking 10 m each way. Probably too many to mention! There is a lot of great fishing in the Popo Agie within a day's hike. Deep Creek, Stough Ck Lakes, Silas Canyon, Atlantic Canyon. On the west side: Dads, Big Sandy, Black Joe (from Big Sandy TH), Dream and Raid Lake area from Scab Creek, Miller, Hobbs, Sweeney lakes from Elkhart are all easy access.
The central Winds on the west can also be reached by Meadow Lake TH. Trail goes through an old burn section but it's not too long. 12 m gets you to Timico L though there are plenty of lakes on the way and in the area. Lake Sequa, Barnes, and many unnamed lakes all the way to Chain Lakes containing lots of fish. Far less crowds too.
September is a great time for the Winds. Been visiting at that time for some 20 years. Few, if any, mosquitos after Labor Day at 9-10K elevation.
There are many here that know it far better so maybe they will have better suggestions.
