I'm glad to have been there as many times as I have. It looks like I won't be going back.
The fire has already burned across the wilderness from south to north. They'll stop it at Apache Trail (Hwy 88), but it will move west through Rogers Canyon and Reavis Ranch over the next day or two.

Man! Glad I hiked La Barge, the Weaver's Needle Area, and Reavis Ranch several years ago. This is a real shame, and a loss because the place doesn't get enough rain to recover very fast.

Do you think this alligator juniper will survive?

Westy Good question. I've lost count of how many times I've passed that tree, but it's at least ten. It has survived at least one smaller fire, but I'm not optimisitic.

I think anyone who has ever passed it has a picture of that tree.

the fire passed through and the tree survived. I'd call that a miracle. It looks like Circlestone is right on the edge of the fire according to your first fire-coverage map. Have you heard anything about if the area was spared? I'll have to find my photo of that juniper and add it to the thread.

There has reportedly been considerable airborne fire suppression for several days for Circlestone, the Rogers Canyon Cliff Dwelling, and the core of Reavis Ranch. Some of the HAZ folks are tracking the aircraft in real time. One big long-term question for me is whether LaBarge and Charlebois will dry up in a semi-permanent way.

This is from November 2010. My buddy Larry's first segment on the AzTrail.
