Interesting situation. I wondered why there was zero commentary? Where was this? What guesses as to why? But then I watched on YouTube and found the answers: it's in Finland, and a strong storm blowing the trees is causing their root systems to lift a forest floor of duff! It's a neat video. I'd like to see that myself.

My original source: www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/apple-river-trees-forest-breathe-1.3311026 Nova Scotia, according to the CBC source
Unfortunately, a side effect of clear cutting that often goes ignored. The trees that were once in the center of a forest were protected from winds by their neighbors, and didn't grow roots that could withstand the winds that they're now exposed to. After years of bushwhacking I've noticed some of the worst areas of blowdown are typically on the edge of clearings.

I saw this happening during a Hurricane some years ago. The ground was really saturated, and the wind was blowing a solitary holly tree around. The roots were pushing up on the ground for quite a few feet around the tree, giving the same effect. Pretty interesting to watch.

I watched the YouTube that you posted, and it was short enough that the next video popped up: that was the Finland version. I guess as T4 mentions another situation, it's somewhat common. Interesting, wherever it happens.
