If doesn't have to be beautiful to get out, right? Persistent cool and rainy weather kept me out of the woods long enough. I got out to a really local preserve to do some rain hiking. It is quite a different feeling in that weather. Video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9E1QF-bJeU&t=423s

I've purposely hiked during heavy winter rain storms locally up along Skyline Boulevard on the Santa Cruz Mountains ridge line. Very sobering challenge even with rubber boots and full rain gear to stay dry. Also spring showers are common in May up in Humboldt and Del Norte County so one needs to expect to do that to some extent on redwood trails. Adding to the wet affects, most nights fog intrudes up stream valleys. Light rain all morning in 2008 along Howland Hill Road, Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park:

Prosecutor, who has left us for more conservative areas, and I hiked in the rain in the Ouachitas for his retirement hike. It was a typical, early spring, Oklahoma thunderstorm, and even though I had a poncho on, the hood tore on a limb and I got soaked. But, when he and talk, that was the highlight of the hike.

davesenesac, your fern photo is a masterpiece..the complimentary colors, the directions of the ferns and the softening leaves at the base create such a beautiful scene. It's a very cooling one as well, nice to view on a hot day.
