Excuse the non-hiking related post.Over the weekend we headed down to visit our daughter, who's studying at the University of Virginia. Thomas Jefferson's residence, Monticello, is sited just south of there, atop a hill. The house has been designated a World Heritage site, as well as memorialized on the back of the 5 cent coin. Jefferson died in that house and is buried on the grounds. We visited Monticello on April 13th, which coincidentally happened to be Jefferson's birthday. It was a beautiful spring day, with seemingly every tree in full riotous bloom. We took two tours: - The House Tour took us into the the house, which was full of marvelous little treasures; maps(!), books, clocks, a vacuum pump, paintings chosen for their conversation starter abilities, sextants, a model of the solar system, and on and on. Unfortunately, no photography was allowed inside the house. - After the House Tour we enjoyed the lush gardens and grounds for a while before attending the Slavery Tour. That was a sobering experience and put the House Tour in its proper perspective. As the tour guide said at the end: "There are two stories being told here." Pics:

Once again your eye for good angles and details tell quite the story. Lovely job presenting this place.
