Ever see a place from afar, and it sparks a strong desire to get to that place in the future? 1. Cottonwood Lake, Sangres, Colorado (as seen from near the summit of Broken Hand Peak.) I've passed by here a couple times, but never dropped to the lake. It looks like a lovely place to camp, right under Crestone Peak and Crestone Needle. I imagine I'll probably camp there at some point. 2. Lake Reveille, Indian Creek basin, North Cascades (as seen from the summit ridge of Red Face Peak). So inviting, but would be really, really hard to get to. It would be a super long bushwhack up Indian Creek from the Chilliwack River (after hiking 15 or so miles to *get to* Indian Creek). Or a really challenging-looking down climb from Middle Lakes or from the connecting ridge between Indian Mountain and Red Face Peak. (And these places are all 20 miles from the nearest road.) I doubt I'll ever put in the effort to get there, but it's purdy!

I don’t have the photos with me to be able to share them, but our trip last July into the Kaweah Basin in Sequoia NP was one of those. We saw the Kaweah range from the west in 2015, and thought they looked amazing. A study of the map told us there was a remote basin out there, and we developed the idea of hiking there. It had to wait because until my husband retired we couldn’t take the time to train, acclimatize, and pull off a 9 to 10-day hike.
