I think I'll take Toejam's suggestion and checkout the Trinity Alps this summer with my two sons for a 4 to 6 day hike. We went to the Grand Tetons last year and they loved it. This year I wanted to find something similar, without worrying about grizzly bears. One thing we didn't do last year was any sort of fishing, they'd like to get in some mountain fly fishing.
Have any of you backpacked this area with hammocks? Looking at videos of the Trinity alps, it seems that trees might not be ideal for hammocks. To large and/or far apart.
Thank you guys, this forum has been invaluable for us as we get more and more into backpacking.

I didn't fish or hammock, but there are lots of streams and trees.

Camp hosted at Castle Craig st park (in the area). We explored the PCT on day hikes in the area... hot. The elevation just isn't enough to counter the heat. Gorgeous area.
Spring and fall is best imo.
