That would be a lot of fun if you had a good partner.

They were back, but are they still there with the government shutdown? According to the website you linked to the park is still open so the rangers probably are still there. Nice photos, HSF; looks great there.

The photos were part of the Tweet, Yosemite Nordic skiing is an easy photo op: all that great sky and rock. Glacier Point Road and over to Ostrander Hut are nice in and outs for day trips and longer with less commitment than Tuolumne Meadows.

Back a decade or so ago, had the opportunity to spend a long spring-week skiing the corn - came up over Tioga Pass from the east.
Illegal as hell but we had a friend haul our food/weight up to the pass via a snowmobile. He dropped off/stashed all our crap off at TPR, and quickly retreated down - while the three of us plodded on, starting from just above the closed Lee Vining gate, skinning up the 120 route. We had just crossed a steep sketch section (around 9,000 feet), when a large snow crack developed just behind us...(started right on the snowmobile track)... couple hundred yards let go...lucky and stupid.
Anyway, was lucky enough to be invited on that great adventure - spent a few - 3 nights in the TM hut with Bob and Laura. It was tight quarters but the hut had warm bunks...a great time was had by all...what I can remember.
We tele'd the TM bowls, ate and drank well, continuing on down the road west after the stay, and eventually came down using the Snow Creek trail. Spring skiing in Tuolumne is epic...not so sure about doing it in the dead of winter though...a lot of commitment.
HSF above makes mention of commitment...what it takes. From my limited experience in Yosemite's Sierra, there are two types of Rangers...front-country LEO types and backwoods isolationists...prefer the latter. Most backcountry Rangers have whatever "it" is. These two do. Up there, common sense, self-reliance, and the right attitude take preference over bi-partisan, political, city games.
Winter up in the Meadows requires great planning and commitment just to set up the hut..., food to be laid in and wood to be cut months prior. Then you have to ski in. Cut off for 5 months - This is a plum job for the right person...would be a privilege to be stationed up there. Shutdown or not, whether they are getting a salary now or paid up in the future, they are almost certainly up there right now living the dream. I would be. just my 2¢
