As many of you now, I had total knee replacement surgery in March. It's been getting better and stronger all the time. Biking and hiking have been going quite well. However, I always knew the real test would be downhill skiing. The local hill opened yesterday and I went up today for about five hours of skiing. I was totally amazed. The knee hasn't felt this good or strong in years. No pain, no looseness. By the end of the day, I was totally confident in it's ability to stand up to that kind of stress. Mind you, I only did blue and green runs without moguls since that's all that was open, but I was totally amazed at how well the knee held up. Felt better than my "good" knee. Bodes well for things to come. Remarkable what you can get for $32,000.00.

Yay! Now for the other knee?! My wife needs to do that. She got her right ACL redone a few years back and now the other knee grinds and hurts under any sort of exertion. It's not fun but she'll be looking to get that one redone soon too.

I had no idea those types of surgeries were advanced enough for you be so physically active afterwards. It's great news and heartening.

Great news. Inspiring. I am getting my new knee on Wed of this week. Apprehensive about the hospital stay, but it has to be done. The therapy I feel I am ready for. Just put an exercise bike together this morning for use in a few weeks. I am ready. Hope to be doing long day hikes in the Smokys by mid April. That would be 4 1/2 months out and based on what you have said before it is likely. Glad the skiing went well. Good grief, you got me pumped.

Apprehensive, but it has to be done. I don't think you'll regret it. Two words of caution. First, be prepared for the first two to three weeks after the surgery. They are not fun. You'll wonder what the hell they've done to you. But it will pass. Second, be absolutely faithful with your physical therapy even when it hurts - even when it hurts a lot. And it does. BTW. I was only in the hospital for two nights. But be assured, you'll be hiking by spring easily.

Great news! You're probably already skiing better than me.
