I'm aiming to hike the Allegheny Front Trail next spring. Not a long or especially strenuous hike, 42 miles. I'm looking for somewhere I can test my gear near DC, in the meantime, so I can plan a dry run or two before I commit to a few days on the trail. Any ideas?
I'm new to hammocks, and want to make sure that it's going to work for me, so I'm going to need a trail with plenty of trees.
Thanks!

You can be on the AT in MD an hours drive from DC. OR you can go a bit further south and be in Shenandoah National Park in VA.

Maybe a hike on the C&O canal towpath? There are primitive campsites every few miles The towpath, while not a hiking path ( strictly speaking) is heavily forested. It is a good place for a dry run with gear.
