A new law is in affect . Chains are mandatory for non all wheel drive, or 4 wheel drive. If you run with snow tires on the car, and the car is not all wheel drive, or 4 wheel drive, you will need chains in bad weather. No exceptions. Just an FYI for visitors.

That’s less funny when the chippy CHP make you chain up in a turn off below the snow line and you get soaked kneeling in the torrential downpour. The good news is I’ve never, ever, travelled again without bathmatt, gloves, solid rain gear (LL Bean urethane coated rainsuit not really good for anything else truth be told) and headlamps in my vehicle in winter. Lesson hard learned.
