Lived and worked in various places in OR and WA and while I prefer(ed) west of the Cascades, the eastern part of OR is also nice.

Hard work, yes... Did two details in public affairs on the San Bernardino NF. Have been continuing to do the job, sometimes on my own time, just to work towards my goals. They finally flew the job here, and I applied, but they ended up hiring someone with Veteran's preference. Nothing against Veterans, but after 6 years doing the job, being sent to training, and being groomed for the position in every way, well, it was a big disappointment. And a waste of money, now that they've lost the investment in me to another forest. But, it was probably a blessing in disguise. I have been craving a slower pace. I had my choice between John Day, Baker City, and Pendleton. We chose Pendleton, it being larger and closer to other bigger towns will make it easier for my hubby to find work. Most of my team are stationed in Baker City, so I'll occasionally have to travel there. Otherwise I get to telework or work in the office as I choose and on a maxi-flex schedule. And I'll have weekends off with my husband, something I haven't had since 2011.

Congratulations, sounds like a great career move. I thought you were going to tell us you were moving someplace exoctic like Union. Are you moving this winter? brrr I've been into the Strawberry Wilderness, once I believe, and quite a few times into the Eagle Cap Wilderness.
Enjoy.

Yep moving in late January. It seems to be a trend - I moved to Gunnison in February, to Laramie in November... Pendleton will not be as cold as those two places so we'll be okay.

I'm excited - this forest down here has been fun but it's crazy busy and I'm looking forward to a change of pace. And different places to explore! We'll be living in a small town, no traffic, have weekends off, maxi-flex schedule and ability to telework. All important as my son is turning 4 and will be in school soon!

Congrats on the new job and change of pace! Best of luck to you through the move -- it's easier to move young children for sure.
