Good idea to post here, Tarol! I'm tempted to re-do some very old TRs just to have some things in here to let people know you can take kids hiking! or maybe a "dirtiest kid photos" thread

Awesome photos, thanks! Your TR stokes my desire to see the island. I've wanted to visit Santa Rosa for many years. Timing of the boat departure/returns has never aligned with my schedule when I've had the time and inclination. Nonetheless, for 2016 I am vowing to take my daughters out there. They loved a trip we took to Santa Cruz Island a couple of years ago and still talk about it. It looks like you had great weather. Was it windy much?

Ogg - Go, you won't regret it. It's so pretty there. I liked it better than Scorpion because it felt more wild. The beaches were incredible - especially the one at the end of the Lobo Canyon hike. We were lucky - wasn't windy until the day we left... Hence the rough seas on the way home. It can get pretty crazy out there. Definitely bring a low lying tent with a lot of stakes and tie downs. Also you may think about a 4 season tent - sand gets through mesh. And although they allow up to 5 people per campsite, I'd say 2-3 so you're all in one tent and it can be located in the shelter. Tents out in the open don't fare as well.

Rebecca - you're still the only one to reply when I posted it in the Trip Report forum. And I even took the time to upload photos and the actually report there. The Trip Report/Storytelling Forum is where Trip Reports go to die...

I do like Santa Cruz for its kayaking opportunities. And if you want a really challenging hike going from Prisoner's to Scorpion is a good one. Did both those things on my trip there in 2011.
