...you're on a dirt road in a huge desert at 14,000ft, you come to a fork in the road and the sign simply says that Argentina is to the left and Chile is to the right.
It was a "main road", so it actually had a sign. Most are just nameless tracks in the desert, which is why you get a guide.
So the northern desert part of the trip ends, and the southern backpacking part begins. It'll take me a few days to get down the re.

Just curious - What method are you using to access the internet from such a location?

Beav, I didn'the have any access out there. I'm back in SPA, having a late lunch and a beer before my bus to Calama tomorrow morning. There's WiFi here, and I finally broke down and got a smartphone before I left.

Any pictures of the sign? You got a smart phone. Might as well put it to use taking selfies.

No pic of the sign. I just wanted to get my tired dusty body to a shower and a bed. No easy way to upload pics for the forum from here, so you'll just have to take my word for it til I get back. Found one some guys on a motorcyle trip took. Dont swe how to link to it from.my phone so you'll have to copy and paste placesbeyond.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/P1040176.jpg

Naw. Can't be too remote if there's an actual government produced sign.

Was there another sign that said "Fun starts here"?

One of my favorite signs is on Highway 12 from the MT border west through ID (although it is a paved road) that says "Winding road next 77 miles".
But there are 2 in YNP that are kind of funny. There's one sign for "pedestrian crossing" with the figure of a person near a campground and another just a little ways off that says "Beware of bears" with a figure of a grizzly. If you pull off in just the right place, the signs line up so the grizzly is "chasing" the human.
