On Jenkins Ridge trail about 2.5 miles up from Hazel Creek trail, there used to be a trail that went southwest over to either Eagle creek or Lakeshore trail near where the 2 trails meet. It would begin where they show Pickens gap on Jenkins Ridge. Anybody remember this trail or whether it is still passable today with some bushwhacking? Thanks

I haven't been there in years but the old site 88 was on it. Trail started on eagle at the old foot bridge. I think it has since washed away. Pinnacle creek trial I think but it's been at least 15 years.

yeah......
thats pinnacle creek...
goes down and hits eagle creek where there, many decades ago, was a bridge...
that is long gone but the base is still there...
and if one hikes eagle creek----the base is the point of reference...
anyways, from jenkins, it goes down hill and crosses pinnacle creek a bunch of times before having to do a crossing at eagle creek..
they closed it due to all the crossings, and mainly because of the last crossing.....
and yeah, old 88 is still there and as of a couple of years ago, the bear cables were still there...
i have hiked down it twice....
and that crossing at eagle was chest high for me the first time...
it was a bitch to say the least..
and a few years ago, i canoed over to 90, then hiked up and crossed eagle again, because i wanted to stay at 88...
which i did...
and they made a new 88 along the new part of lakeshore that goes between eagle and hazel..
that part was designed to replace pinnacle, although it is a few miles away...
and that new part of lakeshore that they opened (which was like 15 years ago)-----is an old roadbed and theres some old home sites and what not.........
along with a cemetery thats closer to hazel...
forget the name, but i believe its the largest cemetery in the Park..
hope that helps...

[/article]

its been years but i think the crossings start before old 88..........as in, more towards the jenkins side, the crossings start, then the campsite, then more crossings...

OK, sounds like it might be a trail we do another day. Depending on the weather, Kevin's comment on the "it was a bitch" water crossing might be an issue. I would like to check it out sometime to see what it was like. Didn't sound like it was too grown over to make it through. Thanks for the input folks and especially Kevin, always a great source of knowledge!

its the last one right at eagle that was the worst...........
also---when i did the lower part a couple of years ago------it was pretty overgrown, but the trail (as on the ground) was still distinguishable........and i knew the general path to get to 88 so i was alright...........i also wanna say that someone had put ribbons on it to mark it but that might have been somewhere else...............also----the part from jenkins just going down the hill to the first creek crossing, while overgrown, it was an old roadbed so easy to follow..............it was just when it hit the creek that it became a little harder to follow..
but, to be honest-----that section is only like a mile or two so if you are confident in your off trails ways-----could pick through to get to eagle.......its basically following the creek all the way down.....
