Rather impressively scary video of a mic'd pro extreme skier falling 1600 feet down a terrifying long steep 50 degree slope on link below. When he starts to fall one can see one of his skis coming off that then tumbles down below him, then the second ski comes off and stops. Later near where he finally stops one can see the first ski. unofficialnetworks.com/2015/11/crazy-video-skier-miraculously-survives-1600-foot-fallWith last weeks nice storm laying down a nice snow base and another smaller colder storm due Sunday, several Tahoe ski resorts will be opening up before Thanksgiving. Have a season pass again so am likely to be making turns each weekend before the Xmas/New Years week. To help get in shape will be doing a 7 mile round trip hike tomorrow down south at the Big Sur coast to a remote beach that has striking purple colored garnet manganese sand will do some close-up work on. Length of day now is only 10.5 hours at our latitude that doesn't allow much time to dabble about after reaching destinations on longer hikes. Thus will be on the trail not long after sunrise in order to get maybe 4 hours in at mid day. David www.davidsenesac.com/2015_Trip_Chronicles/summer_2015-13.html#oct16

1) Yikes!
2) Avalanche air bag... I never heard of such a thing. Seems like a good invention.
3) I'm jealous of your ski season.

Someone be a pal and bring my ski down. On a serious note he said he pulled his air bag. I wonder if it made a difference in that situation, better safe than dead I guess.

Rather impressively scary video of a mic'd pro extreme skier falling 1600 feet down a terrifying long steep 50 degree slope on link below. Interesting to watch, but considering that the guy makes a living from flirting with high-risk stunts on steep slopes, I can't feel even a tinge of pain for him. Live dangerously, die young: it's his choice.

My nephew went over a jump in a terrain park a couple of years ago -- didn't quite make the whole rotation and broke both arms along with some other injuries. Fortunately no head involvement (well, except for the fact that he was skiing without thinking ...). His parents had to feed him, bathe him, brush his teeth, etc. for quite some time. Humbling for a 15-year-old! Maybe an airbag would be a good gift for him ...

"I'm okay, I'm okay". How is that possible? That was an excellent opportunity to die doing what he loves to do. I wonder how long before he gets back on that horse, if you know what I mean?

Per above yesterday did hike at Andrew Molera State Park and had a fine time. Do you see bumps of purple sand on image above? Or concave holes the sand fills? For more on the optical illusion of tafoni, the unique beaches of purple sands, at yesterday's feature page I coded today: www.davidsenesac.com/2015_Trip_Chronicles/summer_2015-14.htmlDavid
