And: photos of trapped vehicles as well as a rolled vehicle. Seems people pushed it. /

I just read that Yosemite Valley is under a mandatory evacuation. They are getting out park employees and anyone else who live in the valley. Very sad. Stay safe everyone. Anyone know the conditions in Tuolumne Meadows?

So far not at our house, or not much. I gather some is making its way into the Bay Area, but not here on the coast. Not like last fall, when even here I had to keep the windows closed.

I read the comments and the account from the person whose vehicle is shown on its side, and it sounds less like they pushed it than like things happened fast and they didn't know how to react (maybe no good reactions). I'm kind of amazed that the eastern Sierra has continued to be clobbered, though it may be more normal monsoon events hitting the burned areas have created slides and localized flooding. I looked at those pictures of Horseshoe Meadows road and thought again that we were lucky our Shepherd Pass TH wasn't washed out while we were in backpacking!

Well it was not as bad in some parts of the Sierra if one was far enough south of the Ferguson smoke. Yesterday 3 of us hiked out from 9 days in Humphreys Basin. Weather, smoke, mostly played out as long range forecast. Long range forecast wind directions also mostly accurate allowed for getting in some excellent photography despite bouts of smoke and storms.
Sunday July 29. Moderate afternoon Ferguson smoke in Central Valley delta and up to Tahoe. Due to northwest and west mid level winds increasing smoke along US395, dismal at Mammoth and moderate in Bishop. Monsoon thunderstorms in pm pushed most of smoke north but still hazy.
Monday 7/30. Picked up walk up permit for Tuesday Piute Pass. Monday smoke less but hazy after southerly wind. To wilderness boundary in evening.
Tuesday 7/31. No smoke in NF Bishop Creek Canyon but smoke visible in distance to north. Moderate monsoon t-storms with lightning by early pm kept us in tents till dissipating late afternoon and nicely cleared smoke.
Wednesday 8/1. With monsoon flow pushing in from south-southeast from Great Basin, beautiful calm, clear air morning hike over pass into Humphreys Basin for base camping 3 nights. Some morning Ferguson smoke in distance to west. By noon two bouts of heavy t-storms with much lightning dissipating by late afternoon. Some Ferguson smoke in distance to west blown up canyon.
Thursday 8/2. Moderate Ferguson smoke everywhere in morning after northwest winds blew in during night especially over Glacier Divide. By noon another push from Great Basin monsoons with heavy t-storms and lightning cleared again by late pm with clear very blue skies. Upper winds changed to southwest flow as forecast kept zone free of smoke.
Friday 8/3. Perfect morning for photography with sunny clear blue skies, calm or light breeze. No more monsoon weather just as long distance forecast with southwest upper winds. By mid pm up canyon breeze brought up mild Ferguson smoke.
Saturday 8/4. Moved to second base camp. Smoke moved in overnight from west. Windiest day of trip with up canyon wind from west. Moderate smoke morning, lighter smoke all afternoon.
Sunday 8/5. Near perfect early morning for photography with sunny clear blue skies, calm or light breeze, though some haze in distance to west. Very blue skies in pm except in distance east of crest. PM moved to third base camp closer to pass.
Monday 8/6. Bluest sunny skies of trip. Good early morning photography. Some light smoke haze stayed east of crest.
Tuesday 8/7 Continued sunny blue skies early morning. Hiked out. Increasing smoke north of Bishop by mid day.
