I'm a little new here so I'm just wondering if there are any rules concerning people wanting to sell gently used equipment.

I'm sure Steve will weigh in, but in the past it has been deemed acceptable by regular contributing posters, so you would certainly qualify. I've bought some great used gear here that I still use. Wish Ray Estrella would come back around, I miss his posts--and his castoffs!

You can only sell gear if you give me some free gear first...

I hope it's still OK. I've got a number of great deals on really good equipment from forum members. Even sold a piece once.

Some forums where I've been have not allowed gear-sale threads, instead allowing for-sale gear to be listed in a signature. Then your wares are displayed everywhere you post.

I've been thinking about selling one of my BV500s. I will watch this thread see if there is a certain place I should post it for sale.

Most forums don't allow a user to post for-sale posts unless they are a regular on the forum - to keep people from using it like craigslist. I think a subforum for swapping/selling gear and that rule is a reasonable approach.

There's already any number of places to buy and sell used gear. White blaze, hammock forums and backpacking light for example. You see the same stuff often posted on several sites so another place isn't really necessary, imo.

We used to have a brisk exchange of children's gear going in the kids' section. I still sometimes see photos of my boys' old packs going down the trail with some other kid I like that. Maybe.. but I never frequent those sites. I only have so much time. And this.

I'm not the Pope for this territory, but double secret probation and public humiliation is probably the worst you will get. I doubt you will be excommunicated. What you got?

I'm just catching this, so yes, Coolkat, you may post an item for sale, you are proven to be a contributor, not a spammer. Thanks for asking.

Good call bp2go. I have no intention of selling gear here (postage from Australia kills the possible savings..) but I do think that it is a great option for the regulars.

Here in Salt Lake we are fortunate to have several gear consignment stores. My gear usually takes two weeks max. to sell. It was especially beneficial as our kids grew up. Best regards to our new forumer from Australia.

Wish Ray Estrella would come back around, I miss his posts I just came across some of his old gear reviews on the web the other day. Always like his reviews. I didn't realize he was MIA. Hope he finds his way home.
