For those that are routinely out doors in the pre-dawn hours, I don’t need to explain the planet dancing we have observed over the last couple months. And now, here come the moon again!
Nov 6 (pre dawn) a thin crescent moon will be tucked in nicely beside Jupiter … Venus and Mars hanging below. Nov 7 (pre dawn) the moon will be lined up next to Venus (Mars is still there too) with Jupiter standing tall above.
Not typically outside before dawn ? Wake your lazy ass up and step outside for the next few days … you won’t be disappointed (unless, of course, it is cloudy)

For a number of years, I saved change in large jars. For a Chritsmas present to myself, I took the jar down to a science store and ordered a 12 inch Dobson telescope. Using it was ok, till I bought the laser pointer. I went on a quest to find all of the Messier objects as a way to kickstart my interest in learning a bit about the stars.
One Halloween, I set the scope up to let the youngersters peer through. A little girl, had quit her efforts to collect candy, and instead spent her evening looking through the telescope. About a year and half later, her parents knocked on the door. They told me how their little girl was out in Florida doing space camp, she started making all 'A' grades in school, and wanted to be a scientiest. The parents were there to thank me for letting her look through my telescope. They had even bought her a telescope.
On nights in the back country, I maake it a point to get up at night bend my head back and just look up at the stars in wonderment.

I bought a cheap reflector telescope for my son, and we've used it occasionally on camping trips, but unfortunately it's pretty cheap and doesn't work all that well. I want to upgrade it sometime (money allowing), really letting him see things like Jupiter as far more than a really-bright smudge in the telescope.

Here is what it is all supposed to look like in my vicinity at about 5 AM Mountain Time on November 6th and 7th. I screen-printed the images from WinStars2, one of many astronomy programs on my computer. The moon's location may be tough to see since it is represented as black against the night sky. Vertical scale represents altitude in degrees above the horizon. Horizontal scale represents azimuth. So most of what we are looking for is around 10° to 15° south of due East here: Friday Morning, 6th, 5 AM: Saturday Morning, 7th, 5 AM:

Last month, Jupiter and Venus were very close. That was impressive too. Mars looks so tiny next to Venus because of their relative locations

The tune was familiar, but I'd never paid attention to the lyrics before.

It's Paul McCartney and Wings. The album was Venus and Mars.

I've been watching the stars since I was 13 or so. I finally, at 64, I bought a reflecting telescope. I used it twice, came home one day to see it had been stolen (I know who by but can't prove it). So...........it's been back to the binoculars.

My camera is always plugged in to my 'scope so to spend the time while my camera is shooting, I "stargaze" with my 11 X 60 binoculars.

I'm out of the house by about 0320 every morning. The planetary views have been spectacular.
